HAGIWARA, Hidehiko

Born in Tokyo in April 1933, Hidehico Hagiwara studied harmony, counterpoint under Ikuma Dan. In 1956 he graduated from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, where he studied composition with Tomojiro Ikenouchi and piano with Susumu Nagai.
He was awarded the Prize for Excellence at the Arts Festival sponsored by the Agency for Cultural Affairs in 1971, 1974 and 1982. He was professor at Musashino Academia Musicae and died in 2001.
His major works for orchestra include Psalm 23, Theme and Variations and The White Rocking Horse. Major works for chamber ensembles include Chamber Concerto and Triple Concerto, for piano Five Pieces for Piano and Chansons de ville (piano duet), and for choirs The Shining Desert, Hana samazama (Bounty of Flowers) and Chorale of the Animals.
