FUKUMARU, Koji
福丸光詩(1997-)
Born in Tochigi Prefecture in 1997, Koji Fukumaru studied composition with Yoshio Nakahashi, Keiko Harada and Toshio Hosokawa in the undergraduate and graduate departments of Tokyo College of Music. While studying the interrelationship between divinity and art he began creating works based on his Christian faith. In 2019 he was a scholarship student sponsored by the Aoyama Music Foundation and recipient of the Kuma Foundation Creative Scholarship. He has also received the Rome Music Foundation 2022/23 Scholarship. His major works to date include Tsuchi no Utsuwa [Earthenware Jars] (Cor. II 4:7), which was awarded First Prize together with the Miyoshi Prize and the Meiji Yasuda Prize in the composition category at the 90th Japan Music Competition, Figless II (awarded the 2nd Matsumura Prize), The Wind Praise (commissioned by Takeshi Ooi and the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra), and Figless III (commissioned by the Music from Japan 2024 Music Festival).
