KABASAWA, Mino
加羽沢美濃(1972.12.1-)
Born in Yokosuka City in Kanagawa Prefecture, Mino Kabasawa studied in the under-graduate and graduate departments of Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. The first CD of her music was released by Nippon Columbia in 1997 while she was still a student. Since then she has released more than twenty CDs including performances with the Württemberg Philharmonic Orchestra in Germany.
She has composed many works for orchestra and wind band along with chamber and vocal music in response to commissions and has performed as a pianist together with many of Japan’s leading orchestras including the Tokyo Philharmonic, the Japan Phil-harmonic, the Tokyo City Philharmonic, the Tokyo Symphony, the Hiroshima Symphony and the Nagoya Philharmonic.
As well as composing and arranging for instrumentalists, singers and in the field of popular music she has composed works for many solo performers and enjoys a high rep-utation as a piano accompanist. Her piano improvisations presented at concerts are espe-cially popular with audiences.
She is active in a wide range of genres including music for TV dramas and creation of sound tracks for films and the stage.
Her extensive range of activities extends to presentation of music programmes on tele-vision.
In addition to her work as a soloist she gives concerts throughout Japan as the partner of the violinist Chisako Takashima in the duo Chisa & Mino. She also gives lecture con-certs offering highly accessible commentaries on classical music from the standpoint of a composer and is engaged in collaborative projects overstepping barriers between genres.
