MOGI, Hirofumi

茂木宏文

Born in Tokyo in 1988, Hirofumi Mogi studied at Tokyo College of Music. His composition teachers have included Shin-ichiro Ikebe, Tomiko Kohjiba, Jummei Suzuki, Akira Nishimura, Keiko Harada, Yutaka Fujiwara and Masaki Murata. He has also studied conducting with Yasuhiko Shiozawa, Yasufumi Tokito and Yoshihisa Noguchi.
He was awarded the 3rd‘Composition Prize 21’of the Yamagata Symphony Orchestra in 2014 for his violin concerto‘Memories of Wave’and was a finalist in the Valentino Bucchi International Composition Competition in 2015. He was also awarded third prize together with the Ryosuke Hatanaka Prize in the composition category at the 22nd Sogakudo Japan Song Competition in 2015, first prize in the Toru Takemitsu Composition Prize in 2016, and the Akutagawa Composition Prize in 2017.
In addition to his music for concert performance he is also active as a composer for musical theatre and silent movies. He is currently a part-time lecturer at Tokyo College of Music and Tokyo Seitoku College.
