The composer, arranger and conductor Miho Hazama studied at Kunitachi College of Music and the Manhattan School of Music. She made her major debut as a jazz composer in 2012. She was awarded the Idemitsu Music Prize in 2014. In 2016 she was named by Downbeat magazine in the United States as one of the ‘25 for the Future’ artists set to shape the future of jazz over the coming decades, and in 2019 she was named as one of the 100 Japanese individuals with international reputations by the Japanese edition of Newsweek magazine. Her album Dancer in Nowhere was nominated for a Grammy award for the Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album in the United States in 2020. Since 2019 she has been principal conductor of the Danish Radio Big Band, and in 2020 she was appointed permanent guest conductor of the Metropole Orkest in the Netherlands. In 2023 she released an album entitled Beyond Orbit to mark the tenth anniversary of her career accompanied by a promotional tour of Japan and the United States.
