This work was composed on 2 October 2000 and first performed Rie Sato and her son Fumitoshi Sato at Kobe City Industrial Promotion Centre Hall on 22 October 2000. Entitled Five Short Pieces at its premiere，three of the pieces making up this work were subsequently used to form the present Three Short Pieces.
