WHAT IS IT? for Voice and Piano（2018）

Having received a commission from the bass-baritone Seiichir? Sat? in 2018， I started by writing a succession of enigmatic words. It initially seemed trivial and childlike， but the piece gained a clear orientation once I had completed the song text. The piece can be performed by either male or female voices， and there is a somewhat weird passage in the middle of the piece which calls for the use of falsetto with no indication of pitch. This is a light-hearted piece and should be enjoyed as such.
