Originally, this work was based on the arrangement that I had just written for a performance for children.
The guitar and the violin were included in that arrangement because I was wondering whether I could make a duo with these two musical instruments. This was the result.
Celtic music can be wistful. It can have a strong beat. And it can have lively dancing. There are a great variety of longing, lyrical melodies. And in all of it is a feeling of nostalgia that moves the soul to its foundations. But it is not limited to the Celts. To overstate it,I think this feeling resonates with every human being. That’s why I,as a Japanese man,can feel comfortable using Celtic music to compose a piece. And that conviction is what led me to do so.
Now many guitarists have added this to their repertoire, and opportunities to cover it on CDs or in concerts have increased. As a result of requests for duo arrangements other than with the violin,I have made arrangements for the cello and the guitar, the oboe and the guitar, the clarinet and the guitar,as well as an arrangement for the harp replacing the guitar.
The content is all the same. But there is a different flavor with each combination of musical instruments. I am very pleased with this recent development that has led to this new work.
