Description
I have written a series of Sonata works which have titles with adjectives that fit the images of instruments and the nature of the music: Sonata Triste [sad sonata] for bandoneon, Sonata Lucida [shiny sonata] for saxophone that was published by Zen-On, and Sonata di Notte [night sonata] for cello also published by Zen-On. I wrote Sonata Gioconda as one of the series.
I also gave subtitles to each movement of this sonata and composed it emphasizing fascinating characteristics of the violin.
I revised the score used in the first performance, changing notation of complicated time signature and reducing excessive usage of ornaments. The second movement, which has often been played separately, is my first composition using Japanese elements I love to use nowadays. Sonata Gioconda was written from 2004 to 2007. For this publication, I drew on advice from violinist Tatsuki Narita.
