SONATA DI NOTTE for Cello and Piano（2017）

Prior to this work, I wrote another full-scale sonata for cello in which I expressed intense emotion with technical representation. I think the idea of the previous work affected composition of this sonata because the grotesque feelings of second and last movements closely resemble that of the previous work. On the other hand, floating feelings in the first and third movements and rich singing tones as unique nature of the cello are ideas which I newly found in the instrument. As I was commissioned to write a sonata for cello, I was under the necessity of making musical ideas suitable for the genre, but I just thought the genre of sonata was suitable to compose music which could depict various images of the night through several movements and make listeners experience rich and mysterious time of a single night filled with various dazzlement and fantasy.
