This work is based on my recent works,Episode Ⅱ for violin and piano (2009) and WolfiEdo pour saxophone alto et sept instruments (2015). The title Gewürzwolfie?! is an unusual coined word and it is also based on these previous pieces. Gewürz is German translation of French word épice [spice] which has the same prefix with episode. I put Wolfi,a nickname for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart,to it. In WolfiEdo,Mozart’s Horn Concerto No.2 in E♭major K417 was quoted. The horn is an instrument which derives from French hunting horn used in around 1650. From its image of hunting,Mozart’s string quartet No.17 in B♭major K458 “The Hunt” is quoted in this work.
When I was studying in France,I enjoyed watching TV program Chasseur de France [French Hunter] broadcasted every Sunday midnight by France 2. This work may reflect my images of hunting dogs running around the forest and of European pastoral landscape inspired by Mozart’s music.
