Description
When in the midst of crowd so rumbustious that I can scarcely hear my own voice there are moments when I suddenly find myself able to hear exactly what someone else is saying or when a particular sound reaches my ears with complete clarity,as if I’d been pierced by a sudden ray of light.
This is an experience not necessarily restricted to when I’m in the middle of a crowd. When I become aware of the hidden meaning of words or when I attempt to do so,the words sound utterly different. A conversation between experts in a subject of which one is ignorant seems like a world steeped in a wondrous language.
Words take on a different meaning when spoken by people belonging to different groups. From intimate language exchanged between families, friends and lovers to public language shared by everyone in areas such as politics, culture and religion, society makes skilful use of language at all levels, ushering in a world in which truth and falsity intertwine.
Today too wondrous words envelop us in the wondrous world in which we live.
It was thoughts such as these that suggested to me the contrast between the tonal blocks and unisons that appear frequently in this work.
The work as a whole is divided into three sections, the first ending at 17,the second extending from 18 to 23,and the third from 24 to the end. It is performed without a break centred on the middle section. The structure then moves backwards with variation of the development up to that point, just as our wondrous world itself advances in spiral formation.
