IN A HAZE，pour deux saxophones alto（2018）

This duo for two alto saxophones adopts a style based on the stereophonic effect unique to a combination of instruments of the same type. The two players play in consort at the start but gradually part company as the piece progresses，eventually standing in stark opposition to each other as the piece approaches its end.
I paid particular attention in this work to melody and strove to realise a method of melodic writing distinct from that of classical style. The melody develops stereophonically as if ‘in a haze’，with both melody and harmony gradually transforming in the direction of imprecision.
A quote from the arpeggios in the dawn scene of Ravel’s orchestral ballet score Daphnis et Chloë appears in the latter half of the work. I employed this quote because I considered that it epitomised the character of my piece.
