- Description
-
Everyone breathes. We breathe in oxygen, and we breathe out carbon dioxide. It is the outgoing breath that enables the wind player to sound his instrument. Inhalation is merely preparatory to breathing out and sounding a note, though of course both breathing in and breathing out are essential for sustaining life!
【From the Programme Note of the first performance】
Each piece('a'-'f')comprising RespirationⅠis an independent entity, hence performances of the work can differ greatly from each other, the selection and combination of the pieces being ad libitum. The player can also determine the positioning of the music stands. For information,a complete lay-out (pieces'a'to'f') at the first performance is shown on the page concerning the'notations'.
Thanks to Mr. Yasuaki Itakura (who was the first to perform RespirationⅠwith all six pieces) for the fingering in this publication.
