ETOILE –COMPOSITION BY 3D MODELING XIII - à la mémoire d’akira nishimura -，for Violin（2023）

Akira Nishimura，who passed away on September 7 this year，was like an elder brother to me in the context of the Groupe des Quatre et ses Ami(e)s. The shock of his death was overwhelming. I had been honing my ideas for this particular work since the summer，but I found myself revising them in the light of his passing and decided to create a work dedicated to his memory.
A characteristic of stars is that the hydrogen they contain is compressed through the action of gravity and converted into helium. Helium atoms constitute the core material for this work. Stars release light by means of the vast amount of energy generated in the process whereby hydrogen changes into helium. This for me correlates with Akira Nishimura’s music.
It is my good fortune that Natsumi Tamai，a violinist I have greatly admired since my student days，has agreed to perform ?toile. I hope that her advice as a performer and teacher will encourage young performers to play the piece. My aim was to create a work in which the energy generated by the performer would emit dazzling rays of light. (From the program notes for the first performance)
