STRATA VIII，for Violin and Violoncello（2010）

Since 1988，based on the idea of regarding registers as strata (the plural form of stratum)，I have been writing the series of Strata: StrataⅠ for string quartet，Ⅱ for flute solo，Ⅲ for clarinet and violoncello，Ⅳ for oboe and contrabass，V for string quartet，Ⅵ for trombone and piano，and Ⅶ for euphonium and marimba.
In Strata Ⅷ，I kept the core idea of the series. But at the same time I aimed at a somewhat different approach in terms of style. Sometimes，it is thought that contemporary music and pop music are opposed to each other. I think it is not true. This piece is my answer to the question.
I wanted not to write a piece of contemporary music which makes audiences knit their brows in thought，but to create a work which radiates energy and fully springs.
