BIVALENCE IX，for Two Trumpetters（2012）

Since 1997，I have written a series of duets for the same instruments including the cellos，violins，violas，clarinets，oboes，contrabasses，percussions and saxophones. The players sometimes get close to and sometimes repel each other.
They might produce tension and relaxation all the more because they play instruments of the same kind. I have assumed various cases which may happen between the two musicians and have composed the works as if I wrote dramas oniy for the two actors. For BIVALENCE IX，I used the brass instrument for the first time. It was a new challenge for me.
I made an attempt to create one person played by two trumpeters. The continuous swift beat may produce a kind of trance effect. If the beat brings a trance，one can only catch a movement that confronts the beat. The movement may emerge as a figure of the one person.
