GIMENO, Pascual

パスカル・ヒメノ

(1974.8.13-)

Pascual Gimeno began his piano studies in Villarreal with Professor Oscar Campos. Later, he studied at the Conservatory of Barcelona with Antoni Besses, and undertook postgraduate studies with Brenno Ambrosini. As a composer, he is essentially self-taught, although he attended some courses with the renowned composer Bert Appermont.
He has won prizes in various competitions, such as the accompanist’s prize in the Callosa d'en Sarria singing competition, and the Ciudad de Berga International piano competition. He has performed as soloist with various orchestras on stages such as the Teatro Principal in Castellon or the Palau de la Musica in Valencia, among others. He has taught piano accompaniment in different conservatories; in particular he worked for ten years as the wind and brass accompanist at the Conservatorio Superior de Castellon. He has also been active as an accompanist in competitions and in opera productions. In this last capacity, it is worth highlighting his time at the Palau de les Arts, where he worked as a repetiteur with conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Frederic Chaslin, Patric Fournillier and Jordi Bernacer, among others. He has also accompanied singers such as Maite Alberola, Marco Berti, Elisabete Matos, Vittorio Grigolo and Erwin Schrott.
Recently he has started to concentrate on his role as a composer, an activity that he combines with his work as a teacher at the Conservatory ""Mestre Tárrega"" in Castellon. He is also one half of the musical comedy duo ""Gimeno & Solsona"" with the pianist Fernando Solsona. His compositions encompass works for different ensembles, both chamber and orchestral, as well as vocal pieces. From his repertoire for solo piano, it is worth mentioning his ""Concert-Estudios de Ritmo"", published by ZEN-ON Music. He has been chosen as the honoree for the 21st “Compositores de España” international piano competition, to be held in Madrid in November 2020. All contestants in the second round will play a Gimeno piece of their choice.
